Economic bubbles are good?

May 27, 2007

Slate.com pointed out the benefits of economic bubbles, namely the creation of infrastructure and the bargain prices of post-bubble assets. We directly benefit from the internet bubble: the laying of undersea telecom cables allowed the expansion of call center business here in the Philippines.

So what benefit happened during the comic book bubble of the 90's?

The infrastructure laid out was the proliferation of the comic book store, which allowed independent titles to flourish. However, I can't see the positive side of the bubble. Comic book stores are closing everywhere in the US. Publishers closed shop, but there was no bargain sale purchases which allowed sustainable growth afterwards.
I first thought its still too early to detect the positive fallout, but the internet burst happen later and we already perceive the benefits.
