Search Engines and Valentines Logos

February 14, 2007

Konnichiwa mina-san! Chompy desu. (Hello everyone! Chompy here.)

 –> Practicing my Nihonggo.

(repost from my Multiply blog)
Today is February 14 and it’s that time of the year again… Happy Valentines to everyone!  This celebration is not just for couples but for everyone: your family, your friends, your officemates, your classmates, your acquaintaces, etc (I think you get my drift) So share the love. <3

Search engines are my life, and my job.. :D

This Valentine’s Day, let’s take a look at the makeovers they did to their logos in time for today’s special occasion.

For Google users, I’m sure you are familiar that Google changes the logo on it’s homepage everytime there is an occasion, and Valentines is one of them. They always come up with some really designs so I was looking forward to what their logo for today was, and I wasn’t disappointed:

Looks sweet doesn’t it? They changed the letter ‘g’ to a stwawberry dipped in chocolate, and the letter ‘o’ even has some splashes of chocolate too.

….

But what happened to the letter ‘l’? Did it get eaten?

Don’t believe me? Then go ahead and go to the Google homepage (hurry! Before they revert it back to the normal logo after Valentines Day).

In comparison, here is what Yahoo came up with:

Sorry if the screenshot is a bit small. I know Yahoo’s probably going to take this down after today so I took some screenshots. You might want to go over to the Yahoo homepage and see for yourself. Anyway, here’s an enlarge version of the screenshots:

It’s actually a flash animation which started with a guy and a girl standing apart from each other…

then it starts to rain hearts…

the guy gets his umbrella…

opens the umbrella…

and moves closer to the girl until it stops raining.

So there you have it. Which one do you like better? Drop me a comment.

I went to MSN and Live.com (MSN’s search portal) but it seems that they don’t customize their homepages the way Google and Yahoo does. Tsk tsk tsk..

Indeed they (MSN and LIVE) don't. They don't have any holiday spirits..
