This hardly feels amusing in any way whatsoever. Misogynist, yes. Amusing, no.

I didn't feel amused, sad to say. All I remember is that back in high school, the women's basketball varsity players were cool and respected and everyone loved them.

People who were not amused with this are, sad to say, have a very limited perception of humor, wit, sarcasm, satire, play on words/images, etc, etc, etc.

You know Lyndon, this is your fault. It's your fault for posting a funny quip here which some people just do not get. But then again, if you had to explain the nity gritty of your every joke, it wouldn't be as funny. It would just be boring prose. Or in this case, a plain collage of picture with no central theme, funny or not.

If I were the owner of this blog, I wouldn't even bother posting these comments. Sure you might say that these are constructive criticisms, but I beg to differ. I would tell you that if your tender sensibilities are slighted, then go to some other site or place where you approve of everything you see. Interact with people like you who have a limited perception, where everything is just black or white, never grey.

Good thing for Lyndon, he thrives on criticisms, both constructive and er- not so constructive. He enjoys this and uses it to his advantage and betterment.

Unlike some people I know.

And in case it's not clear yet, I do find the above post funny. I am a woman and I am not offended. Just as I am sure that no basketball player (man or woman) would get offended or unamused with this.

ure not the owner of the blog anyway, so let him speak up. stop hiding behind each others' sissy pants, ladies.

If this article was supposed to be funny, Lei, then you must excuse me if I didn't quite have the same reaction that you did. I just didn't find it to be funny, plain and simple.

If you find it funny, then that's your prerogative. I have no jurisdiction over what you should find funny, and what you shouldn't. If you think it's funny, then you think it's funny. I have no problem with that. I just don't think that it's funny by myself, and I believe that I have every right to say so.

I posted my comment here, yes, but I didn't approve it for display… Mr. Gregorio did, I think. Personally, I think he's being very open by letting me air my take on the article. He might see this as criticism — constructive or otherwise — or perhaps he might not. That's up to him, I suppose. I just wanted to raise a point that sounded perfectly valid from where I'm standing.

It is the presence of this exchange of dissenting opinions that keeps the perceptions as grey as we want them to be. This article is neither black nor white because we know for certain that some people find it funny and some don't. I'm not in the practice of posting conflicting opinions in order to nurse my so-called "tender sensibilities", after all.

I apologize if I have somehow offended you by way of my comment, Lei. But my comment was an honest opinion with no intent of personal attack, and I hope that you understand if I choose to stand by it.

basketbelle: so what's your point? isn't that what i said? that im not the owner of the blog and have no control on this? isn't that why you guys are so happy that you are able to post your comments here? because you know that whatever it is, lyndon would just approve it? who's hiding behind anonymity now, eh?

sean: ditto. change the 'to' and 'from' of your last post with our names. im glad we agree on that point. you post your comments and i could also post my shit er- i mean my post.

the fact that you commented here means that you wanted your comment to be approved and displayed. anyway, it was a nice change of opinion and i do hope you meant what you said about your posts having no intent of personal attack with lyndon, because as you can see, i am very, very protective.

chill! ^_^

I don't want this post to be shown. If this post is shown in anyway there's nothing I can really do about it hehehe.

I find this ladies basketball post rather funny. Wait. Who posted this? Oh. Haha… dude, it's not really funny. It's vulgar. Nahahalata na hehehe. That seething sex starved monster thing you got going there is bubbling to the surface huh?

Posted by lei_bag at June 22, 2005, 12:09 pm

protective? admitting the need to protect someone or something from…the truth? sissy ladies u both are then. but im starting to think that lady may just not fit u, lei.

Posted by basketbelle at June 22, 2005, 3:24 pm

lei_bag: 'seething sex starved monster'? i don't think so. maybe that's who YOU are.

basketbelle: lee doesn't need protection, that's just the way i am. especially when there are scumbags out there like you. i am no lady. i am a woman. nothing less.

you want the truth? you can't handle the truth. why don't you mind your own business and start with seeking your identity and personality. you certainly need one.

Posted by lei at June 24, 2005, 12:40 pm

i have an identity ms i-am-no-lady. thats why i am willing and capable of taking a stand against sex and humor-starved monsters like the one u r coddling.

u got 1 thing right: u r no lady. ladies conduct themselves with dignity.

Posted by basketbelle at June 27, 2005, 12:11 pm

you've got identity? really? all i could read from here is shit. if you had a real identity, you won't be hiding under anonymity.

the tiniest mole in my body has got more dignity than all you have under so-called identity. you with your malicious intent on attacking and smearing lyndon's reputation.

sorry to break it to you but you have greatly failed in that aspect. because for the people that matter most, that is, me, the beerkadets, lyndon's friends and family, 'basketbelle' is a nobody, a phantom that should be ignored. and that's what i'll be doing from now on. you're nothing but a speck of dust under the sole of my shoe.

[1] I wasn't going to add a comment anymore coz it appears that some people are quarreling already, but here it is anyway. I agree in a way with Sean, that it is not that amusing. I wouldn't call it as far as misogynistic, but I think that the author of the blog is being just… well a man. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But most men are like that. They act on hormones and primal instinct. One of the ways that you can get them to watch sport is if there are lots of physical agression between players. Like male basketball, hockey, football. It helps them to relieve their pent up testosterone. The only way they'll watch female sports is if the players show their figures and skin. Men are men. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Blogger's Note: Some commentators are misusing the word MISOGYNISTIC, when they mean to say CHAUVINISTIC. I am hardly misogynistic: as my Chompy can attest, I lovvvve women.

Ahhh, women and their misuse of language… :D

Posted by beerkada at July 6, 2005, 1:51 am

I meant "misogynist" specifically, for that matter. Misogynism notes aspects of hatred against women. Chauvinism implies a belief in the superiority of one's affiliation. I feel that the idea of men watching womens' sports merely for the skin-show is a blow against women to begin with, and is thus misogynist.

Incidentally, a man calling himself "a lover of women" may himself be misogynist, if he considers women to be 'easy lays' or sex objects in that regard. (Er, yeah, you might want to rephrase that comment, Lee.) :)

Let's not start calling each others' opinions "sex-starved", "shit" or anything like that, please. We get enough of that with the politicians already. If you don't like what other people are saying, then at least put up a worthwhile, substantial response as opposed to giving everybody a bad impression of yourself.

Personally, I think that this thread is all but burned out already. It's a misogynistic opinion, men are hormone-driven, blah blah blah. Move on already. There are other posts on this blog that are available for public consumption.
